Wellness professional Jessica Sloyan has launched the UK Academy of Sound and Therapeutic Arts (UKASTA), a new independent training school created to provide professional education for practitioners working with sound therapy and other therapeutic arts.
The academy begins with its Sound Therapy Practitioner Certification, a CMA-accredited training pathway designed for wellness practitioners who want to integrate therapeutic sound into their professional work. UKASTA says the training combines evidence-informed theory, practical application and professional standards, with an emphasis on using sound safely and appropriately.
The certification is aimed at a broad range of professionals, including yoga teachers, holistic practitioners, spa and massage therapists, retreat facilitators and others working in wellness. The Level 1 program can be completed through self-paced online study, while practitioners can progress to Level 2 for advanced in-person training.
Sloyan founded the academy after more than two decades working across spa operations, wellness leadership and practitioner training. Her experience includes work as a therapist and personal trainer before moving into senior roles within the international spa and wellness industry. She also serves on the board of the UK Spa Association.
UKASTA was developed around a broader change Sloyan has observed in professional wellness: practitioners are increasingly being asked to facilitate experiences beyond conventional treatments, including sound practices, mindfulness, relaxation and other forms of wellbeing support. The academy is intended to provide a more structured educational route for practitioners moving into these areas.
Sound therapy is the academy’s first specialist area, but UKASTA plans to expand its training portfolio. Further programs in mindfulness, forest bathing and other therapeutic arts are already in development.
