The Lab of Meditation Begins New Trauma-Informed Meditation Teacher Training

A Vancouver meditation school has begun a six-month teacher-training program combining mindfulness, psychology, nervous-system education and live practice.

Vancouver-based meditation education provider The Lab of Meditation has begun a new six-month teacher-training program that combines mindfulness, psychology, nervous-system education and embodied teaching.

The Integration Cohort runs from September 2026 through February 2027 and is designed for aspiring meditation teachers as well as professionals who want to integrate mindfulness more deeply into their existing work. The first intensive weekend took place on September 12–13, with five further monthly training weekends scheduled through February.

A training shaped by psychology and nervous-system education

The Lab of Meditation was founded by Hiroko Demichelis, a Vancouver-based Registered Clinical Counsellor and meditation teacher whose professional background includes clinical psychology, positive psychology and long-term mindfulness practice.

That background is reflected in the structure of the training. The program combines meditation practice with psychology, nervous-system regulation and embodied teaching, while also covering subjects such as physiology, neurobiology and biofeedback.

The result is a curriculum that places meditation teaching within a wider understanding of how people respond physically and psychologically during practice.

Six months of live training

The program is deliberately small, with each training group limited to 15 participants.

Students attend six monthly intensive weekends online, supported by live Wednesday practice sessions between the main training blocks. Sessions are delivered through Zoom, and recordings are available for participants who want to review the material.

Tuition is listed at CAD $3,900, with a reduced CAD $3,800 option for participants paying in full.

The training is aimed not only at future meditation teachers but also at counsellors, educators, healthcare professionals and other practitioners who want to incorporate mindfulness into their professional work.

Preparing teachers for varied professional settings

Meditation teachers now work in a wide range of environments, including private practice, education, coaching, counselling, workplaces and community programs.

The Lab of Meditation responds to that reality by placing psychological awareness and nervous-system education alongside meditation technique and facilitation. Its curriculum is designed to help participants understand not only how to guide practice, but also how to work more sensitively with different responses that may arise during meditation.

That emphasis gives the program a distinct identity within a field where teacher trainings can vary considerably in depth, structure and professional focus.

A pathway toward further certification

The school also makes a clear distinction between completing its own teacher training and obtaining certification through an external professional body.

According to its website, graduates can use the training toward part of the educational requirements for certification through the International Mindfulness Teachers Association. Participants must still meet any additional requirements established by that organization.

The distinction is useful in a field where terms such as teacher training, certification and accreditation are often used interchangeably.

For The Lab of Meditation, the new program marks the beginning of another small-group training cycle built around live practice, professional development and a multidisciplinary approach to meditation teaching.
