Rob Holdford Releases Updated Edition of Lifeonomics, Bringing Life Coaching Into the Retirement Conversation

Life coach and wealth advisor Rob Holdford has released an updated edition of Lifeonomics, combining retirement planning with coaching around purpose, relationships and personal wellbeing.

Arkansas-based life coach and wealth advisor Rob Holdford has released an updated edition of Lifeonomics: Breaking Free of Worry and Regret, a book that combines financial planning with a broader coaching framework focused on relationships, purpose and personal wellbeing. The updated edition was announced on September 3, 2026.

Holdford has worked as a wealth advisor and life coach for almost four decades, and the central idea behind Lifeonomics grew out of what he says he repeatedly observed among clients approaching or entering retirement: financial security alone did not necessarily translate into a satisfying life. His response was to develop what he calls a “True Wealth” framework, built around personal, relational and financial wellbeing.

The book places particular emphasis on the non-financial side of retirement planning. Holdford encourages readers to think in terms of three areas he describes as People, Passion and Purpose, with the idea that retirement preparation should include questions about relationships, meaningful activity and how a person wants to spend their time, not only whether they have accumulated enough money.

His approach also draws on elements more commonly associated with life coaching and mindfulness. Rather than treating issues such as rumination, worry about the future or lack of presence as separate from retirement planning, Holdford incorporates them into the wider discussion of how people experience major life transitions. His coaching model places emphasis on habits, routines, attention and what he describes as the management of personal “bandwidth.”

The updated edition also includes discussion of financial codependency, an area Holdford argues receives relatively little attention in conventional personal-finance conversations. The topic sits within a broader attempt to connect practical financial decisions with the emotional and relational patterns that can accompany retirement, caregiving and other major transitions.

For the coaching field, the release is also an example of a wider trend in which practitioners are developing more specialised applications of life coaching rather than positioning their work around general personal development. In Holdford’s case, that niche sits at the intersection of retirement, financial wellbeing, mindfulness and life design.
