The Art of Meditation has introduced a 12-week online Internal Alchemy program led by Burgs, adapting material previously taught through intensive retreats into a slower, step-by-step format. The course began on September 12 and releases a new lesson each Saturday, combining meditation, breathwork, movement and subtle-energy practices.
Four pillars introduced over time
The curriculum begins by settling the body and preparing for the work ahead before introducing standing postures, circular breathing and the Dan Tien as an energetic center. Later lessons move into Eagle’s Claw Chi Kung and Microcosmic Orbit meditation. The orbit practice is first explored through its lower circuit and then expanded through a fuller pathway and its energy gates.
Rather than presenting each element as an isolated technique, the course shows how the four pillars support one another. Breathwork accompanies movement, while guided meditation gives experiential context to the theory. The final week brings the material together through a closing discourse and a guided journey through the Microcosmic Orbit.
Weekly lessons with an intensive weekend
Materials are delivered through a dedicated course platform as video, audio and written teaching. Guided meditations can be downloaded for offline use, and participants can follow the weekly lessons at a pace that fits their schedule. A live online weekend called The Art of Breathing is planned for the end of October, with questions accepted through live chat.
The program recommends regular practice but does not require students to attend each lesson at a fixed broadcast time. Course materials remain available for two months after the teaching period, allowing time for review. This structure offers more flexibility than the seven-day retreats that formed the earlier foundation of Burgs’s Internal Alchemy teaching.
A gentler entry into an intensive discipline
The new format is open to people interested in the healing dimension of meditation, including those without previous experience of the full retreat. Burgs has taught for almost 30 years and frames Internal Alchemy as preparation for deeper spiritual practice as well as a self-care discipline for the body’s energetic system.
For meditation teachers and independent practitioners, the program provides an example of how retreat material can be reorganized for online learning without reducing it to a single prerecorded workshop. The weekly sequence, practice recommendations and live intensive create a rhythm between self-paced study and shared participation. Students encounter the system gradually while still seeing how its component practices form a coherent whole. This pacing gives unfamiliar terminology and physical practices time to become more workable before the curriculum adds another layer.
