The Centre for Mindfulness Canada will deliver its next Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Intensive Practice and Teaching program from January 9 to February 14, 2027. The online training is intended for mindfulness practitioners who have already completed foundational teacher training and are preparing to teach the eight-week MBSR curriculum.
Led by Dr. Kasim Al-Mashat, the program combines an introductory orientation with three intensive training weekends. Mindfulness teacher and author Bob Stahl will also participate as a guest presenter during selected parts of the training.
Moving From Mindfulness Practice to Teaching
Intensive Practice and Teaching (IPT) represents Level 1-B of the Global Mindfulness Collaborative teacher training pathway.
The course explores the structure, intention, and delivery of the MBSR curriculum. Participants examine how its different components work together and practise the teaching skills required to guide others through the program.
Training activities include practice teaching, feedback from peers and trainers, mindfulness exercises, study, and self-reflection.
Beyond learning the curriculum, the program emphasizes the teacher’s own embodied presence and capacity to remain attentive and responsive while facilitating mindfulness sessions.
According to the organizer, successful completion allows trainees to begin teaching the eight-week MBSR program as Qualified Level 1 teachers and obtain a corresponding listing through the Global Mindfulness Collaborative.
Who Can Apply?
Unlike introductory mindfulness courses, this training has specific prerequisites.
Applicants are expected to have completed MBSR Essentials or an accepted equivalent, such as the MBSR Foundations program at Brown University. They must also have experience presenting three introductory workshops or short classes and have completed at least two qualifying silent mindfulness or insight meditation retreats lasting five to seven days.
The program is therefore intended for practitioners already committed to an MBSR teaching pathway, rather than people encountering mindfulness for the first time.
Training Format and Schedule
The training takes place online across three intensive Friday-to-Sunday modules, following an orientation on January 9.
Each full training day is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in British Columbia’s Pacific time zone.
The weekend modules run January 15–17, January 29–31, and February 12–14. The extended format allows trainees to spend substantial time on practice, teaching exercises, and group learning.
