Indigenous healer and author Asha Frost is preparing the November 3, 2026 release of The Inner Winter, a book on rest, difficult life periods and renewal through seasonal reflection. Published by Hay House, the 256-page paperback is also scheduled in an ebook edition. The new work brings together Frost’s spiritual teaching, her lived experience and practices intended for readers navigating grief, exhaustion, illness or major transitions.
The Inner Winter is organized around the four seasons rather than a conventional sequence of steps toward personal improvement. Spring is associated with rebirth, summer with growth, fall with harvest and winter with rest. The seasonal structure provides a way to examine periods of activity and periods when slowing down may be more appropriate. Winter is treated as a recurring part of life, not simply an obstacle to be overcome before progress can resume.
Each chapter begins with an ancestral Ojibwe legend and moves into embodied teaching before closing with a ritual, ceremony or journaling practice. The book draws on the Medicine Wheel as a framework for understanding cycles of change. These spiritual and cultural elements belong to Frost’s approach to reflection and renewal; they are not presented as a clinical treatment or a demonstrated medical intervention.
Frost’s central subject is the pressure to remain productive even when personal circumstances call for rest. The book addresses experiences such as burnout, bereavement and periods of uncertainty without assigning a deadline to recovery. Rather than offering a promise of rapid transformation, its exercises invite readers to observe their present circumstances and consider what kind of attention those circumstances require.
The seasonal arrangement also gives the book a practical structure for returning to different chapters at different points in the year. A reader may engage with its reflective exercises during an active period or revisit the winter material when dealing with fatigue or loss. The chapters combine narrative and personal practice, so the material is not limited to an explanation of Indigenous seasonal symbolism.
Frost is also the author of You Are the Medicine and the creator of The Sacred Medicine Oracle and The Animal Elders Oracle. Her wider work includes workshops, speaking and online teaching. The Inner Winter continues that body of work in a book format, with a particular focus on the relationship between personal limits, spiritual meaning and the rhythms of the natural world.
The paperback and ebook editions are scheduled for November 3, with advance ordering available through booksellers. Frost has also prepared supporting material connected with the publication, including a winter solstice ceremony and a chapter audio resource. The book is intended for readers interested in spiritual reflection and personal development, especially those seeking an approach to rest that does not begin with another demand for achievement.
